First Things First
The following items will be discussed today and will be due by Monday, March 16, 2009:
  • Lab fee = $10.00 and needs to be paid to the financial secretary in the main office.
(Students will not receive their portfolio supplies until their lab fee has been paid!!!)
  • Signed Interior Design Class Policies
  • Equipment and Supplies (see below*)

Course Description & Objectives
This course enables students to explore the field of interior design through a variety of instructional methods. Identification of the elements and principles of design are an extensive part of this course.

The students will gain credit by demonstrating proficiency in the following areas:
  • Explain how basic needs of life can be met by housing and factors affecting housing decisions.
  • Demonstrate various methods of interior design presentation.
  • Identify and explain the basic elements and principles of design.
  • Explain the design and function of interior space.
  • Apply the elements and principles of design to furniture arrangement.

Supplies Needed Every Day
  • Equipment and supplies *
All students are responsible to furnish the following items by Monday, March 16:
A three ring binder and note taking paper that will only be used for this class.
    • 30 plastic sheet protectors
    • 3 bottles of rubber cement
    • 3-5 housing/interior design magazines (any magazines containing pictures of home interiors will work great, even mail order catalogs)
    • Black pen & marker
    • Ruler
    • Scissors
**Make sure and label your supplies before bringing them to class**

Cell Phone Policy
A cell phone has no educational value for this course. Therefore, students are NOT to bring them to class. Please refer to the Cache District Cell Phone Policy - www.ccsdut.org If I see it, hear it, or it appears as if your using it the following course of action will occur:
First Offense: Taken away. Student can pick it up after school.
Second Offense: Taken away and held by the teacher until a parent/guardian can pick it up.
Third Offense: Taken away and held by the teacher until a meeting is arranged by the student with their parent/guardian, teacher, and the student. Abuse of your cell phone may result in removal from class.

Course Format/Appropriate Behavior

  • Students are expected to attend class and be on time.
  • Students are expected to develop and maintain a professional working atmosphere.
  • Students must be self-motivated and willing to push beyond their comfort zones.

Grading

Students will be expected to meet deadlines for all projects and assignments. The ability to meet these deadlines and maintain a professional work ethic will be part of the grade for each assignment and project assigned. Students who miss class due to absences other than unverified absences are expected to make up their work within 2 days. Grading will consist of assignments, quizzes, student’s portfolio, projects, and exams.

There will be NO EXTRA CREDIT offered in this course!
If you do the work assigned, their will be no need for extra credit.

A Note On Attendance
Because of the nature of this class it is imperative you are here every day, on time, and on task. This portion of your grade will be calculated as follows:
Tardies are a disruption to the learning of others.
  1. The first three tardies are free to you with no penalty. These are for emergencies.
  2. On the fourth tardy, students will receive a 5% grade deduction
  3. On the fifth tardy, students will receive an additional 5% grade deduction
  4. Additional tardies may lead to a contract, suspension and/or removal from class.

Office Hours/Restitution: The instructor will not approve restitution for other teachers. Tuesday mornings from 6:30 -7:30 the instructor will be available by appointment only.

Final Note

Interior Design is a great course!!! I am excited to have you in my class and look forward to getting to know you! Please contact me with any questions or concerns! Remember…97% of anything you want you can get if you want it bad enough!
